Khaled Atieh (1964)

Khaled Atieh is van Palestijnse afkomst en autididact. Hij is vanaf zijn geboorte doof en stom. Van jongs af aan hield hij zich bezig met tekenen en schilderen. Hij volgde in Amman een opleiding tot timmerman aan een instituut voor spraak-en gehoorgestoorden. Na enkele jaren dit beroep te hebben uitgeoefend heeft hij zich geheel op de schilderkunst toegelegd. Sinds 1987 is hij als docent schilderkunst (practical art painting) verbonden aan de Universiteit van Amman.

Geïnspireerd door mens en dier schildert Khaled dan weer beheerst en weloverwogen, dan weer impulsief en onvoorspelbaar. Soms is zijn werk van een mystieke schoonheid waarin men duidelijk zijn arabische afkomst herkent.

In 2001 won Khaled Atieh de Eerste Prijs in de 'Al-Shariqa Competition for Fine Arts' in de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten.
