Nancy Lee (1969)
My name is Nancy Lee. I was born and grew up in Hong Kong. I studied one year photography in Panamerican escola des Artes in Sao Paulo, Brasil. Then from 2001-2004, I studied at St.Joost kunstacadamie in Breda, Holland. I graduated in June 2004. Now I am living and working in Holland as an artist.
My work is graphic, full of lines and curves, repeated patterns, strong colours, superstructural like with movements. It moves from one image to the other, like sequences in our daily activities. To me my photographs are one multicultural village with the emphasis on space, high consumption and living life to the max. Our society is underconstruction. It is on its way to establish and finding its own identity on this planet and in this universe.
In order to give this idea the right content, I travel around the globe. Being a modern citizen, living in a modern world. With all the new inventions and new tecxhnologics, the world is drawn together and becoming smaller. in my world, the boundaries are thin and the cultures are mixed. It almost becomes artificial like a little toy city. Globalization is happening fast. Modernization gives us comfort but takes us away from our most basic instinct and posted a threat on losing our originality and individual uniqueness. This materialistic and glossy world is our comfort zone.
