inside out

Dorota Walentynowicz / inside out

This work examines the oppositions between public and private, between hidden and exposed, between inclusion and seclusion. It also questions the decorative connotations of art in public space and explores possible locations of art in the urban sphere. White window curtains were hanged outside the windows thus turning the outdoor space inside out. The curtains were used as a medium to transform the public area between neighboring houses into a shared living space/ lebensraum. It’s aim was to change the function of the space, so that it would no longer be perceived as dividing but rather as connecting.
