Born in Jakarta, Indonesia 26th of March 1975

1975-1978 Tino Djumini, born in Jakarta, Indonesia. I was adopted by a Dutch family, at the age of three. I received a new name, Valentijn Gabriël van Dijk, as well as new parents and two brothers and three sisters.
1979-1996 I grew up in the neighborhood of Haarlem, Bloemendaal. After finishing highschool, I moved to Nijmegen to study Philosophy, at the Catholic University of Nijmegen. After two years I decided to quit Philosophy and follow my heart. I moved to Arnhem to be accepted to the Academy of Arts.

PHOTOGRAPHY

1997 Assignment photography: Portraits of two sisters.
1998 Shared exposition: Portraits, made in assignment of the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Arnhem.
2000 Stay in Georgia, Tbilisi, worked on my photography project Georgians.
A serie of black and white portraits where the choice of timing and the inner world of people are the focus point.
2001 Graduated at the "Hogeschool voor de Kunsten": exposition of Georgians, as well as an exhibition of people ‘en passant’ in the Stadsschouwburg.
2002 Photography exposition Georgians in gallery labor Cooking in Amstelveen.
2002 Photography project Nice Boy: Portraits of Indonesian families, and Indonesian youths with their Dutch adoptive family. Financial support of " Het Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst" and "Het Prins Bernhard Cultuur Fonds".
2002 Working as a free lance photographer for Kunstgebouw; an institute that supports and produces cultural projects in the province of Zuid Holland.
2002 September to November, working in Indonesia on my photography project Nice Boy.
2003 Photography documentary about babies and children, that have been put up for adoption (Yogya Indonesia). Freelance work for Wereldkinderen and the BKKKS.
2003 March to April, second trip to Indonesia, worked on my photography project Nice Boy.
May to August. Preparation work for the next expositions Nice Boy: Jakarta, Bandung and Amsterdam.
Parties involved: Galeri Cemara6 Jakarta, ITB Bandung Soemardja Gallery, Het Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen in Amsterdam and Het KITLV in Leiden.


A group exposition is to be seen in galleri Cemara6 Jakarta: Transforming Bodies. Other photography work can also been seen in gallery Ben Janssens in London and Het Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
Publications: Safe Multimagazines, Hollands Licht, Femina etc.

2000 Direction assistant for the film Magonia by Ineke Smits (Georgië, Netherlands and France).
