artist statement

I work based on intuition and am driven by an organic need to materialize internal feelings and questions; to make them tangible; to observe them as an outsider, searching for new interpretation. In this research I become object and subject simultaneously. Desire is the internal ingredient of my creative process, understanding desire as something that can never be fully satisfied. The incompletion, intrinsic to life and desire, is a constant in my work and generates a dynamic that hovers between drama and absurdity. I don't limit herself to one discipline and the medium is always defined by the content of the work.

In haar werk is Cristina Marques nadrukkelijk in gesprek met culturele tradities, rituelen en symbolen. Zij legt eigenzinnige dwarsverbanden en creëert persoonlijke syntheses in doorleefde en gepassioneerde werken, nauw verbonden met haar persoonlijke biografie. Cristina beperkt zich niet tot een discipline. Zij toont haar artistieke bekwaamheid juist in haar precieze keuzes binnen verschillende media, werkwijzen en verschijningvormen, compromisloos bepaald door de inhoud van het werk. Een eigenwijs, vrijmoedig en intuïtief losmaken en verbinden, zoals noodzakelijk voor de participatie aan onze culturele ontwikkeling.
